Audition Information
Preparatory Choir
The Preparatory Choir is for children entering 2nd or 3rd grade in the fall of 2010. All are welcome! Auditions are not required. Children will be taught music, vocal, and performance skills. Tuition for the Preparatory Choir is $500 per year (September - April). Note: The voice lessons and music training that Preparatory Choir members receive are valued at more than $1,500.
Rehearsals for Preparatory Choir will be held once a week for one hour, from September through April.
Town Choir
Your child will be auditioning for the Town Choir, which is open to children entering grades 4 through 8 in the fall of 2010. This choir performs at various times throughout the year.
- Tuition for the Town Choir is $750 per year (September - May).
- Tuition includes: One three hour rehearsals each week. This time includes approximately 90 minutes of choral instruction and performance preparation, 15 minutes of ear training, and 30 minutes of voice lessons (individual and group). Carnegie Hall/New York City tour (rehearsal and performance fees, airfare, and 4 nights of hotel). Note: The voice lessons and music training that Town Choir members receive are valued at more than $3,000.
- Tuition may be payable in installments.
Rehearsals for Town Choir will be held in a central location in Houston's Museum District from 2-5 p.m. on Sundays (except holidays), from September through May.
Membership Qualifications
- Sing with a clear tone to blend well with others.
- Sing in tune with an unchanged voice.
- Demonstrate a good sense of rhythm.
- Self-disciplined and attentive behavior.
- Positive attitude.
- Some music experience required for Town Choir.
- Commit to a one year membership, September through May.

Town Choir Audition Day Procedures
- Sing the first stanza of My Country Tis of Thee.
- Sight read short rhythmic patterns.
- Sing several melodic patterns dictated on the piano.
- Sing ascending and descending scales with the piano to check range.

Scholarship Information
It is our goal to be completely accessible to every child in the Houston area regardless of race or economic status. A scholarship program is available to children whose families require financial assistance for tuition costs.
